Phillips Van Heusen Fragrances

Phillips-Van Heusen is an American apparel company that operates businesses globally. The company started as a small pushcart operation in Pennsylvania. Moses Phillips and his son, Isaac, sold woolen shirts to local coal miners at Pottsville, Pennsylvania, from a wooden handcart. Moses’ wife, Endel, and their daughters hand-sewed the shirts at home.

In 1910, Moses and Isaac moved their business to New York City and got recognition nationally. In the same year, a Dutch immigrant named John Manning Van Heusen invented a soft-folding collar process for shirts. Van Heusen partnered with Isaac Phillips in 1919 to form the Phillips-Van Heusen alliance. In 1921, the group introduced the new patented collar to the public. The popularity of the shirts accelerated the growth of the company in subsequent years.

In 1987, PVH acquired the G.H. Bass and Co. shoe brand, and in 1995, the company purchased the IZOD brand. PVH also acquired Calvin Klein in 2003, Tommy Hilfiger in 2010 and Warnaco in 2013.

Van Heusen introduced the Van Heusen perfume for men in 2003. The aromatic fragrance featured sandalwood, bergamot, juniper berries and lemon. In 2007, Van Heusen launched Proximity, a masculine fragrance featuring cinnamon, cedar, lemon and mandarin orange as top notes.

In 2008, PVH entered into a license agreement with Gemini Cosmetics to launch fragrances under the IZOD brand. PVH introduced IZOD fragrance for men in 2008, made in collaboration with perfumers Raymond Matts and Annie Buzantian.
