Bobbi Brown (Designer)

Bobbi Brown has her own idea of beauty, and customers could not agree more. To her, beauty is not about perfection, but about a woman's ability to show her unique presence.
Brown was fascinated with cosmetics from a young age, and she began her career in a local cosmetic shop. She attended Emerson College in Boston where she earned a degree in theatrical makeup. After graduation, she moved to New York and became a freelancer doing makeup for models and actresses. Her portfolio grew, and she did a Vogue spread with supermodel Tatiana Patitz in an issue that featured Naomi Campbell on the cover.
Brown's idea that women should use natural makeup that enhances their individuality without changing it led her to establish her own makeup line. She wanted to formulate lipstick that was not greasy or dry and made lips look natural. Magazine editors were enchanted with her. The message was clear that women wanted natural-looking makeup.
In short order, her product range expanded into foundations, where she substituted yellow-based formulations for the standard pink. Estee Lauder bought her company in 1995, but Brown retains creative control. She has written books on beauty and cosmetics and made it to the New York Times best-sellers list.
Bobbi Brown offers seven fragrances. The first, Bobbi, a woody, powdery scent, was introduced in 1998. The latest, Bed Perfume Oil, was introduced in 2012 and is available in an antique-inspired black flacon.
